I am a Consultant Ophthalmic & Oculoplastic Surgeon in Manchester, U.K. I was appointed as an NHS Consultant at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2002.

Oculoplastic Surgery focuses on ​problems relating to the eyelids, eyebrows, tear ducts ​& orbit (eye socket)

  • I graduated from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, University of London in 1991
  • My 7 year training programme in Ophthalmology (in London & Manchester) ran from 1993-2000
  • I then specialised further in Oculoplastic Surgery (also known as Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery or Oculofacial Surgery) with Oculoplastic Fellowship posts in Auckland ​& Manchester,
  • I was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic & Oculoplastic Surgeon at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) in 2002. MREH is one of the largest eye hospitals in Europe.
  • I am the Clinical Lead for Oculoplastic Surgery at MREH where I lead a team of 5 consultants, 3 oculoplastic fellows, trainees and specialist nurse practitioners
  • I am the Clinic Lead for MREH Operating Theatres where I lead on continuing improvements in key areas such as patient safety, productivity and staff engagement
  • I am a founder member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS)

I take a keen interest in the teaching and training of surgeons:

  • I have jointly run an internationally renowned fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery at MREH since 2002. During this time I have trained surgeons from around the world as well as the U.K.
  • I am the Director of the Manchester Oculoplastic, Lacrimal & Orbital Dissection Course which attracts oculoplastic surgeons from around the world.
  • I was ​College Tutor for the  Royal College of Ophthalmologists' Tutor for MREH from 2005-2012
  • I was Regional Adviser for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists 2012-2018
  • National recruitment for Ophthalmology training
  • National recruitment for Cosmetic Fellowship training posts
  • I have published in international peer-reviewed journals and have presented scientific papers in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Sweden, Spain and Belgium as well as the UK.
It is just wonderful to be able to see properly and to take everything in without looking and feeling permanently tired
